Yi Yu (William) is the portfolio manager of Beijing Heisen Asset Management Company, a hedge fund in China with AUM of $200 million. Prior to immigrating to Canada in 2018, Yi worked as full time trader at Liema Investment, a sub fund of one of China’s top domestic hedge funds.
He is also a professor at Seneca Polytechnic, teaching advanced stock market investments and finance. His course covers options/vol trading, stock market investing in the US and China, blue chip investing and limit-up strategy, day trading, short selling, quantitative trading, and high frequency trading.
After graduate school, Yi made up his mind to move to New York and landed a job 2 years later at Apex Trading, where he served as operation manager and risk manager for China’s most successful day traders of US market. Yi later had the opportunity to work closely with NYSE floor brokers and founded a high-frequency trading project utilizing their unique D-quote orders, averaging around 5 million shares traded daily.
After this, Yi made up his mind to go back to Beijing and launch his first fund, investing in China’s A-share market. The fund invested in undervalued blue chip stocks. Subsequent to this, Yi worked worked at LieMa investment, where he learned from China’s top traders on how to read the market and trade China’s most active and lucrative small to midcap stocks. Yi helped develop the firm’s algorithmic trading system.
